Although we understand every mother is different, if you're currently breastfeeding and wanting to boost your milk supply, these lactation cookies are an easy option to try. Created by a hungry breastfeeding Mama, you can be rest assured these really do work.

Unfortunately many of the store-bought options out there are often expensive and made with excess refined sugars. So these cookies made with only wholesome ingredients tick all the boxes.

So what makes these "lactation cookies"?

Key ingredients including rolled oats, brewers yeast and ground flax seeds are all considered to be galactologues (pronounced gah-lak-tah-gog) - a substance known to stimulate milk production and create that full-fat milk Mums are after.

Oats are a fantastic grain, loaded with vitamins, minerals maintaining a healthy milk supply. Brewer’s yeast can help to boost your protein, iron, and B vitamin levels which may also help to combat fatigue and deal with the never-ending sleep deprivation new Mums are dealing with. Flax seeds are full of omega 3s and fibre to keep things moving.

Keep a little jar of these next to your feeding chair or if you're not feeding yourself - these will be loved by all.

Makes about 12 cookies

Ingredients:

1 cup oat flour
1 cup jumbo whole oats
½ cup coconut sugar
½ cup dark chocolate drops or buttons
2 tbsp brewers yeast
2 tbsp ground flax seeds
1 tsp baking powder
¼ tsp cinnamon
¼ tsp sea salt
100g butter or *coconut oil (melted) or ½ cup.

Method:

Preheat the oven to 180 degrees and prepare a baking tray with baking paper.

Place flaxseeds in a small ramekin with 4 tbsp water, mix and leave to sit for 5 - 10 mins.

Combine all other dry ingredients in a mixing bowl.

Once the flaxseeds have gelatinised add them to the mixture, along with the melted butter or coconut oil.

Mix really well until a thick consistency is reached. It may start out a little dry but just keep mixing.

Roll into balls and place on the prepared baking tray.

Press balls down slightly if you want flatter cookies.

Bake in the oven for 10 minutes. Allow to cool.

Optional - top with flakey sea salt for extra flavour.

Enjoy and share this recipe with your hungry Mum friends.
