Superfood Lattes at Home – Matcha / Turmeric / Charcoal

Turmeric Latte

Turmeric seems to be having a bit of a moment in the superfood world and rightly so. Not only is this bright orange spice super versatile but it is also a nutritional heavyweight that is full of health benefits, including anti-inflammatory properties. This is enhanced when mixed with other spices including black pepper, which increases the bioavailability of curcumin (a key anti-inflammatory nutrient in turmeric) by up to 2000%. This superfood latte is a great swap for your morning coffee or the perfect afternoon pick-me-up that pairs great with a couple of bliss balls.

Ingredients

1 cup of plant milk of choice (coconut or almond are both great)

1 tsp ground turmeric

1 tsp cinnamon

¼ tsp ground ginger

¼ tsp ground cardamom

Small pinch of black pepper

Maple syrup or rice malt syrup to taste*

Method

Add the plant milk along with all the spices and sweetener to a sauce pan and whisk till completely combined.

Gently heat until it begins to steam then take off of the heat and transfer to a mug and enjoy.

Matcha Latte

Matcha has been around for centuries but recently this bright green superfood has been making appearances all over the world and one of the best ways to enjoy it is in a matcha latte. As fancy as it may sound, making your own matcha drink is ridiculously easy and it makes for the perfect morning energiser that also delivers a boatload of antioxidants. The secret to a good matcha latte is starting with quality ingredients like a high grade matcha, fresh nut milk and pure maple syrup and from there all you need to do is whisk it all together. This really is the perfect drink and the slight bitterness of the green tea balances out the sweetness of the maple and nut milk. It’s a match(a) made in heaven.

Ingredients

1 – 1½ tsp matcha powder (depending on how strong you’d like it)

1 cup nut milk of choice

1 tbsp of hot water

Maple syrup to taste*

Method

Add the matcha to a mug along with the water and whisk until a smooth paste with no lumps has formed.

Gently heat the plant milk in a saucepan then pour into the mug.

½ tsp pure vanilla

Add all of the ingredients to a saucepan and whisk until everything is combined.

Gently heat until the plant milk begins to steam then transfer to a mug and enjoy.
