Fresh Organic, Grey Lynn Evolution
A fresh take on a Refillery
If you’d asked me a couple of years ago whether GoodFor would ever sell fresh produce, I would’ve said, “nah mate, that’s not in the plans for GoodFor”
Fresh produce just wasn't part of our original vision, we wanted to focus all attention on creating these ultra clean, trustworthy and design-led refill stores and we thought fresh would mess things up...
The more we’ve leaned into our mission and the more we’ve learned about how crucial organics are, it's led us to reconsider everything. The importance of organics, not only for our personal health, but for our planet's ecosystem, soil health, biodiversity, our growers health, and the future of food worldwide.
We were also guided in this direction in many ways, in particular through the closure of Harvest Wholefoods (by Huckleberry), which left a big gap - especially in the Grey Lynn organic community. The organic produce offering at the Sunday Grey Lynn Farmers Market is epic, but for the rest of the week - there’s been a missing piece.
This also made us feel the responsibility to step up, for the sake of the community and the growers we admire so much. We were also asked countless times by our lovely customers to consider this route.
This feels like a really important step - not just for GoodFor, but for the organic movement in Aotearoa.
Hard road
The Grey Lynn store is now 1 year old, and to be honest, despite the store being a masterpiece of design and quality products, it’s been a rollercoaster from the beginning. It wasn’t the perfect start – a bunch of tough lessons and a challenging economy put pressure on us, like a lot of retailers have been feeling. We'll tell the full story one day.
Regardless, we're here and it's all led us to an epic evolution. From next week, it’s a whole new chapter for Grey Lynn and perhaps GoodFor in general.
We’ve been quietly working on this launch for a long time, so I’m genuinely excited (and yes, a bit nervous) to share that from next Friday, May 9th, we will be launching with a full range of fresh organic produce... Jeepers.
As far as we know, no one’s really nailed a hybrid fresh produce / Refillery model like this to a high standard, anywhere. We’re taking everything we’ve learned over the past 8 years and applying it to fresh food - with the same care, attention to detail, design and obsession with quality.
Supporting the organics movement
This isn’t just about Grey Lynn. We’re connecting with organic produce legends across the country who are doing truly amazing work, like Streamside Organics, Live2Give Organics, Untamed Earth, Solstice Organics, Mangaroa Farms and so many more.
-
In Wellington, the team at Mangaroa Farms have been dropping off super fresh organic produce boxes at our store every Friday - and they’re already at max capacity! Definitely get yourself on the waiting list for when capacity increases.
-
In Christchurch, Streamside Organics will begin offering produce box collections from our store every Wednesday, starting next week (May 7th).
We’re proud to support these kinds of grassroots initiatives and look forward to partnering with even more amazing growers and food hubs around the country in the months ahead.
Fresh produce only works if it’s actually fresh - vibrant, seasonal, moving fast, and most importantly - no waste. That’s our number one focus, working closely with growers and getting it from the farm to your kitchen as quickly as possible. We want to get this right for you!
You can help make this successful by giving us a head start.
The most helpful thing you can do? Pre-purchase a voucher.
(You can also purchase these in-store).
It’ll help us hit the ground running and support local growers straight away.
Right now, we’re offering 10% cash-back on all vouchers -
So for example, pay $90 and get $100 to spend.
Use it on anything - not just produce - at any GoodFor store, or online.
Let's go!
Our Grey Lynn store is about to get even better - a space full of life, community, and the best organic food we can get our hands on.
It’s our time to sell some super fresh, in-season & organic green stuff.
We can’t wait to welcome you next Friday and show you what we’ve been working on.
Thanks heaps for being part of this journey.
