Orzo Pasta

Orzo is a delicious and nutritious, carbohydrate-rich short-cut pasta that is shaped like a large grain of rice. It is a wonderful replacement for rice or spaghetti noodles in various dishes. Orzo is a great source of glucose, the human body’s preferred energy source, so will provide you with a good surge of energy and will keep you satiated for a long time after eating. As a true carbohydrate food that creates serotonin, aka the “happy hormone”, orzo can be considered a “happiness” food so is a great addition to the diet for you and the whole family.

Uses

To cook orzo, cover it in boiling water with a pinch of salt and cook for approximately 10 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent it from sticking together. Drain your orzo then serve as quickly as possible for the best possible flavour and texture. Orzo is a wonderful base for pasta salads. Mix it through your choice of seasonal vegetables and top with a light, dressing for a delicious summer salad that is wonderful to share with guests at a potluck dinner or neighbourhood BBQ. Orzo is also a wonderful alternative to rice as a meal base or side. It absorbs up surrounding flavours effectively so don’t be shy when adding herbs and spices to your orzo creations.
