Peanuts are not real nuts. They’re legumes which have the peculiar habit of ripening underground where the fruits appear to function as roots, absorbing mineral nutrients directly from the soil. A favourite food for children and adults alike, peanuts pack a serious nutritional punch. They are rich in protein, dietary fibre and other vital nutrients. They add texture and taste to many recipes and make a great ingredient for desserts, trail mixes and, of course, the world-famous peanut butter.

Uses

Blanched peanuts are perfect for snacking as they are, or combine with an array of other nuts, seeds and dried fruits into a delicious trail mix. Roughly chopped blanched almonds can be sprinkled over a bowl of yoghurt and fresh fruit, salads, soups, stews and stir-fries. They can also be mixed into recipes for granola, muesli and porridge. Use blanched almonds to make your own homemade peanut butter, like in this recipe, or add them to home-baked cookies, muffins and loaves.
