About

Panela is traditional, pure, unrefined, whole cane sugar. It is basically a solid piece of sucrose and fructose obtained from the boiling and evaporation of organic sugar cane juice. Therefore, panela contains all the authentic nutrients present in sugar cane juice and this is why it has been crowned as one of the most wholesome sugars in the world. With a taste that’s a cross between molasses and brown sugar, panela is not only a wonderful sweetener but also an ideal baking ingredient. As it is less processed than regular white or brown sugar and contains nutrient-dense molasses, organic panela sugar is a perfect staple for your baking cupboard.

Uses

Panela sugar is less refined than white sugar and has a yummy taste, perfect for sweetening up hot beverages and baked goods, as well as savoury dishes that need a little contrasting sweetness. Add a teaspoon of panela sugar to tea, coffee, hot chocolate and other superfood lattes. Sprinkle it over steaming porridge, granola, muesli, bircher, rice puddings and chia puddings. Use panela sugar instead of white sugar, rapadura sugar, raw sugar and any refined sugars or artificial sweeteners in many sweet and savoury recipes, simply adopting a 1:1 substitute ratio.
