Organic Oats Steel Cut

About

Oats are nutrient-rich grains packed with the natural goodness of whole grain, protein and cholesterol-fighting soluble fibre. Steel-cut oats are unrefined whole grain groats – the inner portion of the oat kernel – that have been dried and cut into two to three pieces by steel rather than being rolled. They feature a dense and chewy texture with a delicious nutty flavour. Steel cut oats take longer to cook than rolled oats but they are so worth the wait. A tip for cutting down the cooking time of steel cut oats is to soak them in water overnight with 1-2 tablespoons of lemon juice or apple cider vinegar.

Uses

For a nourishing breakfast option, add 1 cup of steel-cut oats, a pinch of salt and 3 cups of water in a medium saucepan. Bring to the boil then simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add your choice of milk or yoghurt, a drizzle of maple syrup or manuka honey, and dried fruit and nuts. Simply delicious and nutritious! Organic steel cut oats can also add extra crunch to homemade bread, loaves, muffins and cookies.
