Organic Basil Seeds

About

Basil seeds are a fascinating food that you may not yet be familiar with. They are similar to chia seeds in the sense that they absorb moisture and multiply in size to create a thick, pudding-like gel, however they generally swell to a size much larger than chia. They also have double the iron, double the calcium and three times the fibre content, as well as a rich concentration of magnesium and potassium. Soaked basil seeds have traditionally been used throughout Asia and the Middle East for ultimate nutrition and weight loss due to their highly satiating qualities. Pop them in a glass or bowl of liquid and watch them expand in front of your eyes into six times their original size. They are an amazing ancient superfood used for their high content of fibre and antioxidants, packing a serious health punch in your day-to-day.

Uses

The uses of basil seeds are endless. They make the perfect addition to your smoothies to enhance the yummy thick texture and provide a hit of important minerals and fibre. They can also be included in any muesli, bircher, porridge or granola recipes alongside your favourite selection of other nuts and seeds. For an immune-boosting and refreshing beverage when you have a tickle in your throat or are feeling a little rundown, mix two tablespoons of basil seeds in about 50ml of lukewarm water then add a squeeze of fresh lemon, two teaspoons of honey and a few large cubes of ice. You could also try these delectable matcha and berry flavoured Basil Seed Trifles that has everything you need in a jar to set you up for the most energised and positive day ahead. Basil seed trifles are not just limited to this flavour combination; try them out with a number of different flavours for breakfast or even dessert. They can be pre-prepared and last up to five days refrigerated.
