This sweet and warming dessert is the perfect winter treat made with wholesome ingredients. The spices like cinnamon, ginger, cardamom and nutmeg help to warm you from the inside out. The pears add a bite of juicy freshness and the topping is packed with crunch and spice. This dish is also a fantastic way to utilise what’s in season. In the winter months, pears are at their best and make the perfect filling for this crumble.

Ingredients:

Filling: 
4-5 organic pears
2 tsp cinnamon 
1 ½ tsp ginger 
½ tsp nutmeg 
1 tsp cardamom
⅓ cup + 1 tbsp coconut sugar 
2 tbsp lemon juice

Topping: 
2 cups rolled oats 
1 tbsp cinnamon 
½ cup coconut sugar 
½ cup raw almonds 
⅓ cup almond meal 
2 tbsp coconut oil*, melted
Pinch of salt

Method:

Preheat your oven to 180°C.

Core and chop pears into bite-sized chunks.

Add to a large mixing bowl and toss with the other filling ingredients until all pieces are well covered.

In a separate mixing bowl, combine all the ingredients for the topping and mix well.

Spread the pear mixture out evenly onto a baking tray or dish then top with the topping mix.

Bake for 45-55 minutes of until the pears are tender and the topping is crunchy.

Remove from the oven and allow to cool for at least 10 minutes before serving.
